In the process of planning my next novel, I have been searching about climate change and our connection to the planet.
Using the keywords “climate conscious,” I found my way to the Climate Consciousness Summit. It was starting very soon, running during the COP 30 summit in Belém in Brazil.
I spent a week watching talks in the summit, all online and released daily. They were freely available for 48 hours, but you can sign up for a price and access them all. There were also daily meditations and some live online events too.
I’m being led into a world that is unfamiliar, and yet some aspects are very much in line with what I believe. I’ve been introduced to speakers from a huge range of fields, all essentially saying the same thing. We as humans are connected to the world around us in deep and unseeable ways and acknowledging this is the first step to taking action to heal the world.
Some of the speakers are more philosophical and abstract, some are scientists involved in mycology or systems theory, some are psychologists, some are from indigenous groups. Most of them are directly involved in climate-related work or activism. Several of them move between the Western science-based world and native cultures.
The Summit, the fifth I believe, is hosted by the Pocket Project in partnership with DeSmog. The Pocket Project is about creating pockets of healing for pockets of trauma, mainly focusing on collective trauma. DeSmog is attempting to clear up the pollution around information related to science and solutions to climate change.
It’s given me lots to think about…

Have your say!
